bacon wrapped asparagus in the oven

Bacon wrapped asparagus can be made in the oven, grill, stovetop, or even the air fryer but the oven is definitely the best way to cook this recipe! The oven allows for the asparagus to cook all the way through while keeping the bacon crispy.

Side dish recipes with bacon cannot be beat! Adding bacon to cheese stuffed peppers or even jalapeno cornbread is a great way to add a crispy texture. Plus, bacon makes everything better!

Should you wash asparagus before cooking?

You want to make sure that you wash and dry your asparagus before cooking. This removes any dirt, sand, or pesticide that could be on your asparagus for better tasting and safer food!

Ingredients

Here’s the list of simple ingredients you need to make bacon wrapped asparagus in the oven.

bacon wrapped asparagus ingredients
  • 1 lb asparagus
  • 6 strips of bacon
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • 2 tsp. soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. ground pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F and line your baking sheet with parchment paper, I like to do this first so it is ready to go.
  2. Wash asparagus & lightly dry. Break off ends, or cut 1” off the bottom.
  3. Grabbing 4-6 pieces of asparagus at a time, wrap one piece of bacon around it, folding the end under and placing that part on the prepared pan.

  1. Mix maple syrup, soy sauce, & pepper in a small bowl, and warm up for 15-20 seconds in the microwave. This will help it combine easier.
  2. Drizzle sauce mixture over bacon wrapped asparagus.

Hint: You can also use a baster to spread the maple glaze onto the asparagus. This might be an easier way to control the glaze.

Variations

There are a couple of different ways you can spice this recipe up!

  • Turkey bacon – For a healthier recipe, feel free to use turkey bacon or another lower-fat bacon. Cooking time may differ so check package for directions.
  • Omit maple syrup – If you don’t want your asparagus to have a hint of sweetness, you can omit the maple syrup. Feel free adding garlic or other simple spices in place of the maple syrup.
  • Add parmesan cheese – Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top of this bacon wrapped asparagus before serving. Nothing beats a cheese and bacon combo!

Equipment

This recipe is very simple in terms of equipment. You only need a baking pan and handy utensils. No fancy equipment needed for this easy side dish recipe.

How do you store roasted asparagus?

To maximize freshness, you should store bacon wrapped asparagus in the fridge in an airtight container or tightly wrapped in foil. It will keep for up 3-4 days. Fresh bacon wrapped asparagus is better but you can reheat for a quick side dish.

What do you cut off asparagus?

When cutting asparagus, you should cut off right where the stocks turn from white to green. You should not eat the white part of the asparagus. You can also break off the ends of the asparagus if that’s easier!

Top tip

For crispy bacon and perfectly cooked asparagus, don’t forget to broil for the last 3 minutes! If you forget to broil, your bacon might be chewy and your asparagus might not cook completely. Remove this block, and replace it with the recipe card her
